    Abstract

Not the Heavens is a collection of original poems that addresses masculinity, sexuality, family, religion, and the environment. While the poems may appear autobiographical in nature, details and characters are liberally fictionalized. The poems are narrative in style, sometimes incorporating elements of traditional form, including sonnets and a pantoum. Influences mentioned in the forward include Robert Hass, Tomas Tranströmer, Robert Lowell, Marie Howe, Natalie Diaz, Matthew Dickman, Jack Gilbert, Robert Bly, Danez Smith, and Wallace Stevens.
