    Abstract

My dissertation includes the results of three main projects that examined the organization of premotor systems in prosimian galagos, including the determination of subdivisions of the motor thalamus, the connections of the motor thalamus, and the ipsilateral corticocortical connections of premotor cortex. The results revealed the architectonic subdivisions of the motor thalamus, the thalamocortical connections of the motor thalamus with the motor cortex, the architectonic subdivisions of motor cortex, the functional organization of motor areas, and corticocortical connections of motor cortex in galagos. The results indicate that the motor system of galagos is organized in a similar ways as those in the well-studied simian primates (macaque monkeys and owl monkeys). Therefore, prosimian galagos share with the simian primates a general plan of organization of motor cortex.
