One vocabulary study strategy that may boost retention and recall is to space (distribute) practice sessions over time.
Description
The English Language Center (ELC)’s Academic Vocabulary Guide resource series was developed as a way to provide English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners at Vanderbilt University the opportunity to better learn and retain academic vocabulary. Our Academic Vocabulary Guide provides learners with: 1) research-proven strategies to meet the challenges of vocabulary learning and retention in the context of academics; 2) rationales for why and how particular strategies work; 3) guidance on how to effectively choose and implement the strategies; and 4) references that validate or refute the usefulness of particular strategies for specific tasks.
