This assessment looks at the educational landscape at One World Surgery (OWS), a Non-Government Organization that provides volunteer surgical and medical services to at-risk populations in Honduras and the Dominican Republic. The problem of interest for OWS is how to clarify and assess the variety of educational activities that take place as part of its operations. Four questions of interest are addressed. What is considered educational by OWS stakeholders? To what extent do OWS stakeholders perceive educational activity as aligned with OWS vision, mission, and values? To what extent are educational activities tapping into reservoirs of knowledge at OWS? What outcomes could be used to inform OWS leaders if educational activity is supporting organizational goals? The investigation used mixed method research techniques to reach the following findings. First, educational activity is considered by stakeholders in two ways, as event-based programs assessed through data, and as a wider array of activities not currently assessed. Second, stakeholders assert educational activity is fundamentally in line with organizational vision, mission, values and strategy for growth. Third, when seen through the lens of the Argote and Ingram reservoirs of knowledge framework, stakeholders discuss knowledge as associated with members and tasks while discussing other ways of knowing less often. Finally, while current assessment practices cover a limited number of activities, by expanding assessment to other activities, OWS leaders could gain data to show how educational activity supports OWS organizational success.en_US
