This capstone was a process improvement project seeking to find resources to achieve long-term financial stability for DV Farm. DV Farm is a nonprofit organization which assists veterans suffering from homelessness and substance abuse disorders. An intervention is necessary in order to continue their uniquely tailored mission to help military veterans. The concept of social enterprise emerged as a relevant pathway for the organization. We developed two main research questions: What are the possible opportunities for DV Farm to stabilize financial support, and once opportunities are identified, what does DV Farm need in order to realize the opportunities? Quantitative analysis of the financial data and qualitative interviews were used to conduct this mixed methods study. We discovered opportunities for corporate, philanthropic, and grant funding. We also discovered an impressive network of “people” resources which the farm can rely upon as they seek additional funding opportunities. Five overall recommendations were presented to DV Farm’s board members. First, seek organizational support through social entrepreneur networks. Second, seek and leverage business, estate, and trust donations. Third, DV Farm must formalize their basic business process and infrastructure. Fourth, DV Farm should investigate and apply for grants. And finally, DV Farm should investigate an external social enterprise opportunity by leveraging their expansive network.en_US
