Metasurface-enabled Thermal Emission Engineering
Abstract
Thermal radiation is typically broadband, incoherent, unpolarized, and emitted over a wide angular range, which limits its use in applications requiring spectrally selective, directional, and polarization-controlled. This dissertation investigates metasurfaces as compact platforms for controlling thermal emission in the mid-infrared. By engineering bound-state-in-the-continuum-inspired resonances, this work demonstrates that thermally generated radiation can be reshaped into a narrowband spetrum with high emissivity, strong coherence, chriality, and abitrary wavefronts.
