Abstract
Angular correlations of prompt gamma-rays emitted from fission fragments allow the study of a variety of properties over a wide range of neutron rich nuclei. The method for angular correlations presented in this work was developed to measure the magnetic moments, spins, and parities of excited states of nuclei produced in the spontaneous fission of 252Cf. Furthermore, multipole mixing ratios are measured for many transitions in both odd-A and even-even nuclei. Methods for interpreting these mixing ratios in order to determine meaningful information on the shape and single particle structure of nuclei are presented here.
Included in this work are the first measurements of g(2+) in 140,142Xe and g(4+) in 134Te. The mixing ratios of -band to ground band transitions in 102,104,106,108Mo, 108,110,112Ru, and 112,114,116Pd are also measured for the first time. The shape and the evolution of single particle states around A?100 are examined through the assignment of spins and parities and the measurement of multipole mixing ratios.
