Abstract

This study examined the effects of the C.R.E.A.T.E. Play Program, a theater-based, peer-mediated intervention, on social play among preschool children in an inclusive preschool setting. The sample included 14 children, including 2 identified with elevated behavioral challenges. Level of social play was assessed using momentary time sampling before and after the intervention. Results indicated increases in social play for both focal and non-focal children. No meaningful changes were observed in disruptive behavior due to low base rates. Findings suggest that theater-based programming in naturalistic settings may support the development of social play in early childhood.
