dc.description | Includes descriptive metadata provided by producer in MP4 file: "Politics, Economics and Social Issues - Video - MLK Day 2011:Keynote address." With Julian Bond. As part of the keynote ceremonies for the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day celebration, Bond speaks at Vanderbilt on Jan. 17, 2011. The occasion begins with performances by three Vanderbilt Christian vocal groups: the gospel choir Voices of Praise, Victory A Cappella, and the smaller group Jeremiah Generation. Frank E. Dobson, Jr., director of the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center, introduces local middle and high school students who were winners in the Center's Martin Luther King essay and oratorical contest: Jacob Bell, Landrea Berkley, Kavon Green, Taylor Greer, and Gerald Wynn (some names are probably misspelled). The students read their essay and poems. Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos speaks. Vanderbilt student and vice president of the Black Student Alliance Gabrielle Westbrook introduces Bond. Bond takes questions at the end. The vocal groups and the audience close the event by singing "We Shall Overcome." | en_US |
