dc.description | Finding aid for a collection. Collection description: A miscellany of records (historical, financial, membership, press, etc.) kept by the Peabody Dames between 1917 and 1974, and a scrapbook containing photographs, reports, yearbooks, and programs from 1953 to 1957. The Peabody Dames, an organization connected with George Peabody College for Teachers, was formed in 1915 for "the promotion of sociability among its members and the discussion of current interests, and such other forms of self-improvement as shall be designated from time to time." The membership included students, wives of students, faculty members, wives of faculty members, administrative staff, mothers of students, and any woman officially connected to Peabody. The organization ceased to exist in the 1970s, before the merger of Peabody with Vanderbilt University. | en_US |
