BLACK AND ASIAN AMERICAN STAND-UP COMEDY AS A REFLECTION AND CRITIQUE OF STRUCTURAL OPPRESSION IN OUR MEDIATED WORLD

Abstract

I analyze the performances of contemporary African American and Asian American comedians to explore how they create and deploy personae that complement their critiques of structural oppression. I examine how these personae are impacted by the use of media technology as both a performance tool and mode of distribution.
