Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Philip Levine was honored at the Annual Colloquium of the Gertrude Vanderbilt and Harold S. Vanderbilt Visiting Writers Series, held on campus Apr. 11-12, 2003. Levine comments that poetry can be calming and fresh during this time of turmoil in Iraq, but that writing it is not always therapeutic for the poet. He also comments on his strategies in tailoring a reading to his audience. Ann Marie Deer Owens reports.
