Korean Ethnic Churches' Benefits to Korean Immigrant Entrepreneurs and Their Families

Abstract

This qualitative study explores various toolsets Korean ethnic churches provide to Korean immigrant entrepreneurs. Based on twenty-four in-depth interviews with Korean business owners and co-owners, I question how immigration has impacted their religious affiliations, denominational adherence, and their relationships with the Korean church. Many discussed benefits gained from regular church attendance. These benefits helped them to develop their businesses, adapt to America and rear children. Some, however, found Korean churches to be cumbersome and "wastes of time" as they had little need for Korean networks and support.
