Relational Academic Advising Settings

Abstract

Setting: What follows is the transcription of a storybook read-aloud by an experienced preschool teacher at a multi-ethnic elementary school located in the commuter belt of a large U. S. metropolitan city. The teacher reads for the first time a storybook entitled The Bear Ate Your Sandwich, written and illustrated by Julia Sarcone-Roach. Fifteen preschool students, ages 4-5, populate the brightly colored and inviting classroom. A video camera sits atop a tripod behind the children and facing the teacher, as all participants settle comfortably on the floor. The teacher observation occurred on March 7, 2019.
