Undergraduate Writing Symposium 2010
In March 2010 the Writing Studio and The Commons will host the second annual Vanderbilt Undergraduate Writing Symposium. Vanderbilt students will read and discuss successfully written course papers from across the disciplines. The event will include remarks by John Sloop, Senior Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Science and Frank Wcislo, Dean of the Commons, and a reception at the Dean's residence following the panel presentations.
The students whose writing appears on this collection were nominated by Vanderbilt faculty for outstanding performance on a course paper.

Contingent Workers and The Helping Hand Home
Thannisch, Amy
A paper for Human and Organizational Development 2720: Advanced Organizational Theory, Fall 2008. Thannisch discusses the problems that the Helping Hand Home for Children, a non-profit organization that offers treatment to abused children, has with its contingent workers and volunteers. One problem is identifying the level of commitment of such workers, and another problem is matching the workers' skills to the needs of the organization.
